About Ana

Ana Victoria Calderon is a Mexico City based artist. She was raised in tropical Cancun, surrounded by vegetation and nature, which heavily inspired her style. Her main subjects are florals, foliage, space, lettering, earth, symbolism, and a few spiritual pieces here and there. The artist enjoys working with watercolor, ink and acrylics on paper. You can find Ana in her studio, painting, managing her online sales, licensing her work to amazing companies and teaching workshops around the world and online.

Ana Victoria Calderón es una ilustradora graduada de la Universidad de las Américas, Puebla. Estudió la carrera de Diseño de Información y al mismo tiempo trabajó en su diplomado en Artes Plásticas. Es originaria de Cancún y actualmente reside en la Ciudad de México, donde expone y distribuye su trabajo. Pueden ver sus ilustraciones aplicadas en prints, bolsas, libretas, cerámica, artículos de cocina, tarjetas de felicitación, portadas de libros, cases y varios productos más alrededor del mundo! Licencia su arte a empresas como Hallmark, Papyrus, Trader Joe's, entre otros y ha colaborado con Vanity Fair, Elle, Travesías, Glamour, Frutos de Vida y Dr. Bronner's. Sus principales técnicas son acuarela, tinta y acrílico sobre papel. Tiene un estilo delicado y femenino, basándose en elementos orgánicos, naturaleza y símbolos.

Every time I post #wip videos on stories using @hydracolour iridescent, color shifting, metallic, magical shimmery watercolors I get flooded with DM’s asking what brand of paint this is, so I decided to leave a pic here on my feed 🤩 👉🏽They are from @hydracolour 👈🏽✨ I discovered these handmade watercolors in 2018 when a student at one of my workshops in New York gifted me a couple of paints and I was immediately enchanted by them! Ever since then I have been offering free samples of @hydracolour dot-cards at all of my retreats because I want every creative person to be able to have a go at embellishing whatever art they make with these beauties. 😊 Also! I included an activity using these paints in my new book coming out at the end of the year! So yeah. 🌟New beginnings🌟 it’s been about 10 years since I gave up my original career choice to become a full time artist- and I never looked back! 🌼 Making art is my favorite thing in the world and anyone who makes a living through creativity can tell you it’s not a simple path. Started reminiscing about in-person watercolor workshops on stories today and now I’m sitting here crying over DMs with students because we miss this so much! 😭❤️ I’m so grateful I get to teach so many in you through a screen, especially now where meeting in person is not an option. But I will say- there is nothing like that human to human connection for shared art experiences. I love going around the room, watching over my students and asking if I can pick up your brush and help you out! ✍🏻Yes. I will hold your brush- and now in a moment where we’re all wearing face masks and disinfecting everything it seems crazy- nevertheless, I’m certain we will be able to share a space and create TOGETHER again. 🙌🏽 Our nature is to interact, to feel a warm friendly hand on your shoulder, to share a hug after spending hours making art and chatting together, learning from each other. Having tiny bites off of a shared snack platter, exchanging art supplies, lending a better brush to a student who forgot their’s, laughing and getting to know new art buddies while playing with paints. Accidentally dipping your watercolor brush into your coffee and still drinking it anyways! ☕️ All this and so much more is what I miss about the natural world, where we are able to gather and make art together, as we are meant to. 🤍✨ • #anavictorianawatercolorclass #talleranavictoria #anavictoriabook #watercolorworkshop

Painting is my absolute favorite thing in the world! I am so grateful and happy that I get a chance to do this for a living. It also makes me smile to receive so many interesting questions, here is a list of answers to FAQ:

FAQ

Did you go to school for design?

Yes, I spent a long 6 years at University (UDLA Puebla) studying Information Design and Fine Arts. I graduated in 2008 but have not stopped learning since! I've enrolled in many artistic workshops since then, including printmaking, linocuts, lithography and currently pottery.

Do you do custom or commissioned paintings?

While I am incredibly grateful and honored by commission work requests, it is not a service I can currently offer. I am incredibly lucky to be super busy with my own paintings and licensing my art! .

I have seen your work on greeting cards, books and journals at large retail stores, do you sell these items on Etsy?

The items you see at big stores with my artwork on them are images I license to several manufactures. They all make amazing and beautiful products! While they are not available on my shop, you can find them at manufacturer's websites and stores like Paper Source, Papyrus, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Gift Shops, etc.

Do you teach workshops? If so, when and where?
